• All schools funded by the state (including non-maintained special schools) are inspected by The Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) and inspection findings of both the educational and boarding provisions are published on the OFSTED website  Independent schools are inspected similarly by the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI)  

  • Each case will vary according to need. The commitments of all stakeholders should be identified clearly before any placement is made.

  • Occasionally, and however well planned it is, a boarding school placement will not work. It is important that the local authority has a strategy to deal with this and that stakeholders and partners know what their responsibilities will be in these circumstances.
